“Fab evening meal here last night - great good, really friendly staff (perfectly on the right side of attentiveness) and very reasonable prices. Unfortunately for this lovely restaurant, its owner and staff, we realised afterwards that we'd seen what is sadly becoming an increasing issue of people running up large bills and then trying to get away without paying: a very loud and entitled family of four were seated near us; we noticed them ordering a lot (and being advised by the staff about portion sizes and what would be arriving, so as not to over-order) and they were very happy, smiling, laughing and talking loudly through their whole meal. The wait staff then took away empty plates at the end. We only saw as they went to pay that the man was now (quietly) trying to create an issue, and after they left, the staff were very upset. We spoke with the owner, and this family had complained that there was a problem with one of the meals - which, to note, they had eaten IN ITS ENTIRETY - so had been trying to blag the whole bill free. Absolutely disgusting behaviour from these obnoxious and selfish diners. From the impact alone on the staff, they should be thoroughly ashamed of what they did.”

“An absolute gem of a restaurant! Fantastic location, plenty of seating and a great atmosphere. Food is fab and a great menu to chose from and there is something for everyone! The skewers are so tasty, the tiramisu is to die for and the range and choice of drinks complement each and every dish. Well worth booking so don’t arrive and be disappointed! Staff are super tentative and friendly and made our meal special. Thanks and already looking forward to coming back again soon!”

“Wonderful little restaurant in city centre. Easily accommodated for our large group of people. Food was prepared to our liking and served rather quickly, even though we were 14+ guests. Lasagna was delicious and appetisers utilised proper Italian meat and cheese. Pasta was also good. Kind staff was a good bonus.”

“An excellent restaurant with excellent cuisine, I have never eaten such wonderful steaks anywhere else - it is simply something incredible, therefore Five stars 5*. If it were possible to give 6*, I would give 7*. Yes, it is expensive, but this is a Steak House. At the same time, I did not expect that the most ordinary steak on duty for £16 would be simply incredible - soft and very tasty. You do not even need to cut it - it is already cut and you only have to take a piece, put it in your mouth and ... drown. Just drown in an ocean of pleasure! For the first time in 8 years of living in the UK I ate a relatively inexpensive, but such a delicious steak! I will soon start rapping about this steak. Everything else was also excellent - French fries under parmesan cheese with some very tasty sauce, then there were desserts, I tried two and both were excellent, especially the peach mousse. The service is a separate praise! I'm a little confused, but I got the impression that our table for 4 people was served by 4 or 5 waiters. Moreover, the service system is worked out to the smallest detail, everyone knows their business and supports their colleague. Needless to say, there were no empty seats in the hall, it was necessary to book a table in advance, but it was worth it. I really liked the interior design of the restaurant hall, but what I did not expect was the magnificent interior of the lobby in front of the toilets, and the toilets themselves were very clean and very well done. It often happens that the restaurant hall is decorated very well, but this is where the care for customers ends. But here everything is different - everything is thought out to the smallest detail and nothing spoils the impression of the wonderful cuisine of the restaurant. Of course, next time I come to York, I will book a table in this restaurant in advance. I can safely recommend everyone to enjoy lunch or dinner in this restaurant, I am sure you will get a lot of pleasure!”

“The future of kebabs is in great hands. We tried these yesterday and had to get them again tonight. They are the tastiest kebabs we have ever had! Served in a naan with juicy lamb thats spiced to perfection and served with salad and the sauces you get with pickle trays, especially that mint one that everyone fights for it was just amazing and so filling. Well done to the chefs and whoever decided to put it as a menu option! Try it out and be prepared to get addicted!”

“Came here with my mum and nana after shopping and we all really enjoyed it. The food came out hot and fresh — I had the katsu curry and it was spot on. My mum and nana both liked their meals too, and the staff were super friendly and patient with us. It was a bit busy (since it’s in the outlet), but the atmosphere was still chill and the service was quick. Prices are a little on the higher side, but you get good portions and quality food. Overall, really nice spot to grab something tasty after a day of shopping. Would definitely go again”

“Loved it! We did not have a reservation, but luckily there was a table for us (8 pm Friday night). The service was good and they were very quick. The portions were very good and the food was lovely for a great price. We went with the dinner menu which is a very good deal. Would recommend!”

“A family-style Hong Kong-flavoured restaurant with a warm and friendly atmosphere. The menu includes clear photos, so you can easily order just by looking at the pictures. Highly recommend the roast duck and roast pork. We also ordered the crispy noodles with pork ribs — the portion was generous and it was absolutely delicious. The iced lemon tea is also a must-try. If I visit York again, I’ll definitely come back here for dinner.”

“I’d say this is one of the best lunch deals ever. With £8 you get a Chicken & Bacon Avocado Sandwich, complete with fries and salad, and a cup of coffee. They tasted good too! The place was cozy and nice. I came in on a Thursday afternoon (the lunch deal starts from 12 to 4) and it was super crowded. People coming in from 12.30 onwards had a hard time finding seats. I would definitely recommend this place whether for lunch or for a drink.”

“I had a great stay at this modern and stylish hotel. My double room was well equipped with a Nespresso machine (with four pods), plenty of coffee sachets, and a good selection of teas. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and I loved the clever touch of the TV hidden behind a sliding piece of artwork. The large windows let in loads of natural light, and the room controls made it easy to adjust the temperature and fan settings. The shower was another highlight — a spacious, low-level shower enclosure with both a rainfall and handheld shower. Water pressure and temperature were excellent. The separate sink and worktop merged just to the side of the bed area was a nice feature. Breakfast was stacked full of self serve continental options as well as orderabke cooked options including a full English, priced at £25 for adults, but it was included with my stay, which made it great value — and it was absolutely delicious. All the staff were friendly and very helpful throughout my stay. The hotel overall is clean, bright, and modern, with a welcoming bar area that’s perfect for relaxing. A great stay”

Moxy York immediately stood out with its fun, urban, and modern vibe. The downstairs area is full of character, decorated with eye-catching urban art, hanging pod chairs, plenty of selfie spots, and even a photobooth complete with dress-up hats and caps. The luggage carts by the entrance were incredibly helpful when we arrived with multiple suitcases. The overall first impression was stylish, energetic, and welcoming. Cleanliness & Safety Concerns
The hotel was clean throughout — from the reception area to the lifts and guest rooms. The lifts are secure and won’t operate until you scan your room key, which we appreciated as an added safety feature. CCTV inside the lifts added an extra layer of reassurance. The bathrooms, both in the public areas and our room, were spotless, and the baby-changing facilities downstairs were spacious with a wide sliding door that easily accommodates a pram. Food Quality
Breakfast was excellent, with plenty of hot and cold options, good coffee, cereals, pastries, fresh fruit, and a variety of juices. Gluten-free options were clearly available, and we loved the sign that mentioned vegetarian sausages cooked to order—just ask a staff member. Everything was well stocked and fresh. The bar also served well-priced soft drinks, and we appreciated the free pints of cold ice water when requested. Ambience & Surroundings
The ambience at Moxy York is playful and modern, with thoughtful design details such as bright pink filler used deliberately to highlight cracks in the concrete floor—turning something ordinary into part of the décor. There’s a beer garden, a pool table, books, board games, magazines like Empire, and even a free retro Street Fighter arcade machine. Everywhere you look, there’s something creative or fun. The hotel feels lively yet relaxing, perfect for groups, couples, families, and students alike. Service & Atmosphere
Every member of staff we interacted with was polite, friendly, and eager to help. The front-desk team created such a welcoming environment. We loved the gesture of a free cocktail or mocktail each on arrival. They even had special offers like a 20% student discount and a free mimosa for graduates on the day we visited. Dog owners will appreciate the custom stand at reception with water bowls for both large and small dogs. Small touches like free cucumber water at the bar and umbrellas available to rent added to the sense that Moxy pays attention to guest comfort. Facilities
The hotel offers lots of thoughtful amenities: A well-equipped workout room directly opposite the lifts Fast, clean lifts with fun selfie-style Instagram templates inside Monthly event notices and clear signposting throughout the hotel A first-floor ironing room accessible with your room key Modern, comfortable guest rooms with sensor lights under the bed (perfect for late-night bathroom trips), air conditioning, USB ports, a European plug socket, a wing-backed chair, a kettle with tea/coffee and Biscoff biscuits, and secure locking feature. Bathroom amenities including shampoo, conditioner, hand wash, and body wash The room was quiet with no banging or noise from other floors, leading to a very peaceful night’s sleep — something not all hotels manage successfully. Although there is no on-site car park, there is a Q-Park nearby and several other parking options within walking distance via parking apps. Signing up for Marriott Bonvoy is worthwhile too, as it makes Wi-Fi sign-in quicker and lets you collect points. Overall

“Brilliant, went for food tonight and nothing too much trouble to adapt the menu to my gluten free and lactose intolerant diet. Great welcome by the tea at the bar, checked the reservation and started with a cold drink before afternoon tea and cocktails. “It isn’t often I give 5 star but this place deserves it! Before you even get chance to walk in the place, staff are already greeting you and asking how we were. The staff were friendly throughout the whole service and were very welcoming/accommodating as I had a young baby. The food was amazing! There is a large selection so there will definitely be something for everyone! On this occasion, we went for one of the set menus which is great value for what you get. The portions were perfect sizes and there was not a long wait time. If I lived in/near York, this place would definitely be a regular stop for me!”

“I am from Singapore . This is very authentic Chinese restaurant with a diverse menu including vegan options. Food is very tasty and service is excellent. They even provide complimentary tea. I came here alone for lunch and ordered the MLXG (Mala Xiangguo) which was super delicious and reasonably priced. Food portion was generous. I came back with my husband for dinner on the same day and we had beef noodle soup (non spicy) and the fried banana dessert . Huge portion with delicious soup, tender beef cubes and crunchy greens. I highly recommend this place. For vegan, you must try the food here too, the menu looks interesting and food is very tasty and reasonably priced. Will visit again if I come back to York one day.”

“Location is perfect for visiting .walking 5-10mins to the hotel. All the stuff like bed sofa furniture are new and comfortable let me feeling at home , warm cleaning and convenient. Walk 2mins to the old city wall, about 10mins to the minster cathedral, York museum and fantastic garden old abbey, all the old street ,shopping center and castle museum plus railway museum just in 30mins walk away. With the perfect price , l like say this is the best hotel I ever been. Highly recommend”

“We were staying locally and decided to pop in and try this Indian restaurant. It was the best Indian food we have had. We ordered a veggie platter for 2, chicken korma, mushroom rice, and chips. Every dish was tasty, fresh, and hot. The food was served very quickly. The staff were very friendly. It had a great atmosphere and was not too pricey. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended.”

“You can never tell with a review, but this is my honest opinion of my experience at this hotel. Lady at reception, very efficient, polite and very cheerful. My room was very clean, I checked ruthlessly. The location is amazing, about 5 mins walk from the station and in an area with plenty going on to entertain and feed yourself. Can’t report on the food as we had stuff planned.”
