“Cody is a legend. He made me a focaccia sandwich. I asked him to surprise me with the contents and he did not disappoint! With spicy salami, dried tomatoes, mayo and cheese, it was delicious. I didn't take a picture because I ate it before I could look for my phone and I'm not sorry, it was so worth it.”

“We organised a private event for my sisters hen do last weekend where we privately hired the venue and they provided catering for us all. We had 20 people in total of which 8 are vegetarian and no vegans but everybody loved the food, it was delicious. They had thought of everything, playlists, table layout, self serve water on the side and even a tripod to take some group photos. We had a fantastic time and it was so special to have the venue to ourselves with sharing food and excellent service. Thank you again, would highly recommend!!”

“We had a lovely experience from start to finish!!! The atmosphere is great and very warm, and the service is very lovely! We ordered a fusion boat which included many different pieces of sushi and nigiri, variety was great. All the food was amazing and the drinks were too. I would recommend highly it’s a beautiful place with lovely food and a very calm and soothing atmosphere!!”

“Previously visited Cheals when based in Henley-in-Arden. This was our first time at their new location in Knowle and we had a wonderful time. The restaurant is much more spacious now and the interior tastefully decorated. So, first impressions were great. Our waiter gave a warm welcome and expertly guided us through the menu and wine list. A very capable front of house team. My wife and I opted for the a la carte lunch menu and with each course our enthusiasm for the next grew. The hardest thing is deciding between all the tempting choices on offer, so if your budget stretches to it, I'd go for the tasting menu for a real treat. The highlight for us both was the dessert course. What a selection of moreish puddings skillfully prepared. Hats off to their patisserie chef. We chose Cheals for our second wedding anniversary and were delighted we did. We'll definitely be returning soon and would highly recommend it to others too.”

“Oh my! What a gem! We go to Greece once a year and were very excited to find this family run restaurant and what a joy it was! The food was simply stunning! They only serve Greek wine (as they should) and let you try it before purchasing a glass or bottle so you know you will like it which is unusual but absolutely brilliant. The halloumi was just perfect and I loved the Greek potatoes and tzatziki! All the meats were really great as well. Oh and the cherry port at the end was truly a cherry on top :) Could not fault a thing. The atmosphere is just lovely. Felt like a night in Greece. Cannot wait to come again, thank you for a wonderful night. Yamas! :) We will be back soon :)”

“We come from Hong Kong. The staff are friendly, the food is fabulous, especially the French fries and the burger, the bubble waffle also delicious, the price also makes sense. There are 2 tables and 8 chairs so we can eat in very well. Will definitely come again, sorry for my poor English.”

“The restaurant looks really nice since the recent refurbishment, beautiful and clean with great service and pricing for the portion served. Family rooms cater for a more private setting for sisters which is considerate and the food is soo flavoursome (I recommend the lentil soup to start with and for mains, chicken wings). Can’t wait to come back and try more dishes :)”

The noodles are perfectly cooked, loaded with toppings, and the sauces are rich without being overpowering. The salt & pepper chicken is crispy, spicy, and seriously addictive. Portion sizes are generous, prices are fair, and everything tastes like it’s been made with care rather than rushed out the door. “Initially I wanted to get a takeaway dinner from Rudy’s but they were too busy for a quick takeaway collection. Went here instead and tbh this was much tastier and obviously healthier than pizza. Place is clean, food was reasonably priced and service was quick and professional! I’d go back again!”

“A truly special evening. Phenomenal food (really unexpected combinations that JUST WORK!) an amazing playlist and really personable staff. “Not my first visit and certainly won’t be my last, but by far some of the best chip shop food you can buy. Exceptional value. I had a large mixed meat and chips. All fresh, hot, and a generous portion. I sometimes order from other chip shops depending where I am, and the food here is a completely different league. Highly recommended! (Very friendly staff too)”

“Recently found this gem. I can’t believe I didn’t know about it until I went on my nieces Facebook as I don’t have FB. The malteser cheesecake and shortbread are amazing. I’ve been looking for cafes with homemade cakes and these truly are homemade, which is such a rarity! The staff also make the latte to preference such as decaf/ oat milk etc the indoor area is clean with tasteful decor. The outside seating is really lovely as it’s based in a pretty and peaceful location. There is a free car park that can be used. Owner is lovely and friendly. We felt very welcome. I was a bit worried as I’ve been to other places which are a bit hostile towards Muslims/ Asians but there was no need to be worried here. I haven’t tried the food yet but when I do I will edit my review . I’d love to see more cheesecake flavours as Gil is a great baker . I am a baker too and I have very high standards so that’s saying something . Im definitely not easily pleased when it comes to cakes. Overall really lovely cafe . I went to another cafe before I discovered Gils for homemade cakes and that was such a major disappointment in quality and taste and did not compare to Gils. Prices are really good for the cake considering it’s homemade and generous portions . Only wish I could visit more often but due to health problems I can’t but when I do it’s a lovely experience. “Such an amazing gem of a restaurant. The best and most humblest owner and host, made us feel so welcome - he especially showed incredible care to my 1 year old. On to the food, everything looked and tasted AMAZING! The salad was TOP notch and the meat was SOOOO succulent and mouth watering. The sauces were SPECIALLY amazing, much much better than any we get elsewhere - owner makes it himself! If we were local to the restaurant we’d be there ALL the time.”

“Our first visit to this lovely gem, I’ve passed it many times and was actually born a short way down the Bearwood Road. A very warm welcome from the host who has a lovely sense of humour. The decor is very cozy and like sitting in their living room. The food is amazing, mainly Polish but other dishes too. We had the fish pate followed by Highlanders potato pancakes which was simply amazing, great flavours. Finished with choc cake with another twist. Lovely ambience with nice music. An all round authentic great experience, will definitely be back !!”

“A unique restaurant with excellent service and outstanding food. We each has a three course meal for set price of £35. I had the baked camembert, then duck followed by raspberry cheesecake. Every course was freshly cooked and tasted delicious. The waiting staff were very attentive. We definitely will be back. Highly recommend.”
