“Lovely restaurant in a fantastic hotel. Our only meal here was breakfast and our full Scottish breakfast is excellent. Breakfast was also well done. In the evening the restaurant and bar are packed. This is obviously a place to go. Prices good. Attentive and professional staff.”

“Very friendly and helpful staff. Great location in the city, but not too busy of a spot, so no loud noises waking you up. Rooms are very comfortable, bed was soft and cushioned but supportive, very comfortable. We had room service the first night since we got in kind of late. Food was pretty good. “Review is for the space menu, aperitif and surprise course for £35- For the price I highly recommend! It’s easy to spend £30-40 on dinner in downtown Edinburgh, so you might as well do it in style! It is not a Michelin experience, but they do a very good job at getting as close as possible for the price. Try to come with one of their special deals :) ambiance was great and felt very upscale. The servers were all very very friendly, the service was speedy, we got fun explanations for each wine pairing and each course. Wine pairings were great and good value, definitely recommend for £30. Overall so fun and many yummy dishes, and didn’t feel rushed. They really try to surprise and delight you. I read some recommendations which say the portions are too small, I disagree with this. I was very stuffed when the desert course came (in combo with wine pairings). Some more detailed review on food quality for the corporate head who decides the menus, guessing this has nothing to do with the chefs at this branch as the food looks exactly like the promos for their London branch and was executed technically very well: - Surprise course was soooo fun in concept but too much gel-ing agent was used (maybe agar?) a bit gummy and not enough flavor. Great presentation! - gorgeous oyster course, perfect! -terrine could have been thinner in my opinion but very fun and flavorful course - folks at my table loved the potato, sauce was great. Due to egg it wasn’t a stand out for me - risotto course was yum and wine paired well - flat iron for me was best savory course of the evening, every element was so delish! Truly impressive course. Perfectly cooked meat, sauces were varied and delish -dessert was hands down best course, soooo gorgeous, perfect wine, no notes. My only sadness was not having enough room to finish the whole thing”

“This place is incredible!! The food was reasonable for a high end product and atmosphere. From the moment we entered the staff were very kind and helpful, asking us about our day, and offering to take our coats. Moments like this made it better than better. The food and drinks menus were both detailed which made it perfect for an overthinker like myself for picking the perfect drink. The food menu was the same, and described exactly what you will get. My partner and I shared the chateaubriand which was a perfect serving for us (with the extra sides) the beef melted in our mouths, and the sauces were amazing, I’d especially recommend the Malbec and bone marrow jus, it was an excellent extra for the beef. Sides were perfect, the broccoli tasted Smokey and cooked perfectly to be soft with a small crunch, the spinach was refreshing and lemony, the mushrooms were peppery and were a larger portion, and the chips were lovely and crispy with a fluffy inside. The staff were great, so attentive and helpful with our questions and chit chat. I couldn’t recommend this place more, for a high end meal with a better price tag than some steakhouses. Amazing!!”

“We took the chance and popped in one Friday evening as our friend has been going here forever and recommended They were hosting a little birthday party but welcomed us to dine as they had tables available We ordered pasta with complementary garlic bread which I have to say was one of the nicest breads I’ve had , some rose wine which was delicious and chilled to perfection and water The pasta was so fresh and tasty We were full to try a dessert but we will be back The owner and mum We’re just lovely we felt so welcome and just loved the old style decor and cosy feel Of the place This is a little hidden gem and very reasonable price wise We can’t wait to go back soon”

So we chanced it rocking up towards the start of service hoping to get squeezed in. (Edinburgh at the fringe is busy). The menu has hand written additions/specials, some bin end wines to take advantage off.
