“Fantastic food, excellent service and a great location too. Definitely recommend this place. It sits almost at the bottom of Tinto, which is a great hike for walkers. It took almost two hours to get to the top and the views are spectacular to say the least. The restaurant is next to the Carmichael farm shop, so after your meal, pop in and pick up some first class meat too. We'll definitely be back again. Well-earned five stars!”

“Booked in for Lunch with my Mum and Dad. Unfortunately my Mum was ill and could not come. I am glad we still went along. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Between the two of us we had 6 Courses and had no fault with any of them. Would recommend " The Crown Harburn ". Definitely coming back.”

“So I tried Chef Chi after reading reviews and I wasnt disappointed. I ordered a lemon chicken dish & salt & chilli chicken dish, both were lovely. I went in to order my meal & Emma, who took the order, was really lovely, polite and thorough when taking the order. It was a 30min wait but I can accept that, it was busy, a Friday night & its clearly a very popular takeaway!! I'll be ordering from there again. Update: 15th August, I phoned in an order, the lady taking the order was so lovely, upbeat & chatty, really lifted my mood. I was a pest, phoning to change my order but nothing was a problem to her. The food, chicken & cashew nut, fried rice, chilli chips, curry sauce, noodles & sweet n sour sauce was really nice, not too salty, not too bland, plenty cashews which other takeaways scrimp on and plentiful portions. Second time here and yes I'd recommend and yes, il be back.”

“Delicious taste! The whole fried fish was huge, and the chips were plentiful—completely filled the box. The lady owner noticed I was a foreigner and patiently explained—she was very warm and welcoming. I was travelling alone and felt cold before，then I chose to gave them a Chinese knot as a gift, hoping they like it. I also hope I can come back and enjoy their food again.”

Had the 2 course lunch menu, excellent pate served with quality toasted bread and breadcrumbed veal with a spinach and cream sauce, followed by tiramisu from the a la carte menu which was incredibly good. “We come to Gullane every year for the Scottish Open Golf, from our home in The Lakes, and always look forward to a return visit to The Main Course and see the familiar friendly faces of the wonderful staff...and of course, the food. The quality is always top notch, the potions perfectly sized and the flavour delivery exceptional. In my photos, you'll see our shared starters....lots of crispy calamari and to balance that, perfect bruschetta. We then had the calzone pizza and the knock out beef ravioli in a sage sauce. A request for a simple side garden salad, not on the menu, was no problem at all. Negroni cocktails kicked things off, and a bottle of Soave Superiore Classico for under £30 (a great price for this) was enjoyed throughout the meal, ending with their lovely tiramisu. Well done to all the chefs, staff and the owners at The Main Course. You have a great place. Many thanks for looking after us. See you next time.”

“For this restaurant only being open a week, it is already running incredibly smoothly. Was no issues at all with me being gluten free and the gluten free bread they had was delicious. All the food was incredible, I mean gluten free tagliatelle how many restaurants go to that effort. The service was amazing, nothing was too much trouble. I'd highly recommend giving this place a try you will not be disappointed, make sure you go hungry as you'll most definitely want 3 courses. Drinks were superb as well, perfect for a special occasion or date night.”

“December 2024: I visited here with a party of six for an evening meal. First impressions of the restaurant from outside wasn't anything special; however, when inside, the venue really shines. Lovely restaurant with plenty of seating and a great atmosphere. There was a real buzz about the place from both staff and other customers. Tables are well spaced out and it was lovely and welcoming. Service was great - not too quick, not too slow. Staff friendly, attentive and very polite. Food was super tasty. Highly recommend the Penne Carnegie. Banoffee ice cream sundae is also worth having if you have any room left! Dishes are reasonably priced, roughly worked out at £25 pp for 2 courses and soft drinks. Overall, highly recommend a visit here if in the area and we will likely be back.”

We loved the Thai Tartare, the Chicken Katsu and the Popcorn Baked Alaska, but my personal favourite was the Duck Breast. The price are also very reasonable (I'd recommend the 3 course for £38 deal), and the impeccable service made us feel comfortable and satisfied. Can't recommend enough!”

“Honestly I loved this place. Taco Tuesday is half price tacos and for that I’ll be back. I had the halloumi tacos and thought they were delicious, crispy and tangy. My friend had the sweet potato with added beef, and the beef tacos and they were also very flavourful.”
