“Gem of a cafe under a church where they help people with special needs skills to help them in society. The scones were delicious and very reasonably priced as were the sandwiches. We thoroughly enjoyed our time eating and talking to the staff who were very welcoming. Whilst it's just a brief visit to Edinburgh for us, we'd certainly come back if we're in the area again. Great place!”
“The service was very nice and the chai latte was brilliant. It is a very cute little shack next to a park.”
“I often pop into the cafe when I am the area making deliveries. It's a really nice place. It's spotlessly clean, reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly. There's lots of tempting homemade cakes, scones and biscuits on sale. There's plenty of parking available and there are power assisted doors for wheelchair users.”
“Kids had great fun trying to climb the different climbing walls.”
“Absolutely my favourite place to eat. The food is beautifully prepared the atmosphere is fantastic with a very authentic French feel. The staff cannot do enough and even when the restaurant is busy they remain attentive and helpful. Would highly recommend.”
“Honestly our whole experience was amazing. The service was so good, all the waiters were so friendly and professional The restaurant manager let a have a table out of the way as my daughter hates loud noises. He was very polite and professional also. The food was excellent, im a 30 year chef and could not fault it. They use a renowned butcher for all their meat. And it really shows!!. It was like eating butter and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.”
“Best cafe in Edinburgh with lovely, brilliant staff and amazing breakfasts. We ate here every day of our trip. P.S thank you for making my birthday weekend so special and thanks for the cake - yum !! We will be back.”
“La Viola, Edinburgh – A Sweet Slice of Heaven Tucked away in the heart of Edinburgh, La Viola is a dreamy little haven for dessert lovers. I tried the pistachio cheesecake and the Nutella cheesecake — both were pure indulgence. The pistachio was silky, subtly nutty, and beautifully balanced, while the Nutella was rich, decadent, and melt-in-your-mouth divine. Each bite felt like a quiet celebration. A perfect spot for a sweet pause in the city.”
“coffee was good, i think it’s one of the best in the city, its hidden as it named the staff were very welcoming and smiling wifi was provided on the table”
“Went last year and loved it soo much had to make another trip to Edinburgh to see them (any excuse really!) . One of best light shows seen. Well done all, must take a lot of work!”
“Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. Ingredients were fresh and of great quality. Amazing value for money, really filling and nutritious. Was nice to get a takeaway wrap to eat in the nearby park as there wasn't much space inside.”
“Can't believe I've never came here before. Been seriously missing out. This is hands down the best and most authentic neopoliton pizza in Edinburgh. It's not even a competition. The dough was perfectly cooked. Light. Crispy. Tasty. The quality of the bread in general was just amazing. The atmosphere and ambience of the restaurant was great too. Perfect for a date night, or special occasion. If you are a pizza guy like me then this is a must visit in Edinburgh. I would imagine that you will be as impressed as i was. 10/10”
“Rankin’s Cafe is an absolute delight. The service is prompt and friendly, the setting is charming with the Forth bridge visible over the top of the pretty village houses. Both times we visited our daughter had the kids breakfast which she loved. I was very happy to find a full vegetarian breakfast on the menu (including delicious vegetarian haggis). The food, the atmosphere, the service is all great. Highly recommend!”
“While in leith you have too definitely need to go into this cafe. The cakes are delicious and loads to choose off. We only had an orange cake and a coffee and tea this time but would definitely be back to try other food on offer. You can also bring your dog with you as long it’s well behaved . Took a takeaway cake home and it was delicious too.”
“This is a delightful wee cafe, very community centred and part of the beautiful Liberton Kirk which sits across the road ( an aside, the church is worth a visit at any time but is a visual delight in autumn as the leaves of the creeper covering the building turn a fiery red. Gorgeous.) The cafe is manned by cheerful and helpful volunteers and the fresh scones, cakes and biscuits, baked on site, are great. Definitely worth a try if you are passing.”
“During our honeymoon trip to Edinburgh, this turned out to be the coziest and most delicious breakfast spot we visited. The owners are wonderfully friendly and prepare everything with genuine care. As a surprise, they even had a honeymoon gift waiting for us, which made our visit extra special. I can recommend this place to anyone, and I truly hope we’ll be able to return on our next visit to Edinburgh!”
“I came to The Village Cafe after a bad experience at a different nearby cafe where after 45 minutes I never received my food. Needless to say, when I arrived at The Village Cafe I was absolutely starving. It was packed but there were 2 tables outside. Despite it being windy and 9 degrees, it was at least sunny so I asked if I could sit outside. The server who greeted me was outgoing and friendly and asked if I had been served. I told her no and asked to sit outside. She replied something to the effect that it was a bit cold outside and she was sure they could get me a table inside. Within minutes a table was free and I quickly ordered the cheeseburger. My food came out maybe 10 minutes later. It was delicious. Being American, I’m a bit of a burger snob. The burger was juicy, the chips were crispy, the salad was fresh. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Really lovely neighbourhood cafe. Will be back and hopefully have room to try some of their cakes. :)”
“Truly a hidden gem! Kind staff and superior-quality food at very reasonable prices. I've had an egg roll twice and it was to die for! I think they use prime quality ingredients, the bread roll itself was so soft and tasty. Unfortunately not dog friendly (I think because they are within a larger premise), but they do takeaway from the back (it's not signposted, just walk to the back of the building and you'll find a desk with a bell to ring staff and a menu, there is also a nice garden with some benches). So really an amazing spot to stop by after a long walk on the beach!”
“The appartment was beautiful! Very bright and spacious. The location was really close to the old town and main attractions. We didn’t even use the bus, it was like 20 min walking distance. Definitely recommend!”
“Awesome service, Turkish coffee and the salad, near the peaceful and beautiful neighborhood.”
“Really nice Pakistani/Indian food with lovely service and great portions; Reasonably priced. Cafe is available upstairs too. Would definitely return and recommend”
“Wow what a great day out. Well worth the visit, especially during lockdown”
“Came here on the off chance we could get a quick and tasty meal, I have to say our experience was near perfect, the staff were pleasant and polite, the food was very tasty, we had lasagne and pizza with skinny fries. My lasagne was delicious and my partners Pizza was just as nice, the fries were cooked perfectly, on our way out we had a lovely chat with the gentleman who served us and he was pleasant, polite and made us feel welcome to return. only issue we had was my partner likes her pizza a little bit more cooked/charred but that is not a fault of the chef we forgot to advise. To finish my review I would like to say if you want good food and good value for money you cannot go wrong with this wee restaurant.”
“Having lived near the cafe, it is always my go to place for coffees and breakfasts. The place is spacious and comfortable, and the service always maintains a decent pace. I have tried their whole menu at this point and don't have much to complain about. The Salmon Breakfast and the Sausages with Mash are two of my favourite orders. If you have a sweet tooth, try one of their Marlenkas, or if visiting on a hot day, the milkshakes are worth a try. The staff is the friendliest I have seen, and makes for an overall pleasant experience. A shout out to Ola, Pat and Leigh for being great hosts.”
“Delicious linguine with pistachio pesto pancetta and proper cappuccino. Can taste the quality incidents and pasta was al dante. Friendly people. Quick service. Would be back again soon.”
“Super lovely cafe, would definitely recommend you going! It’s relatively cheap and the food is absolutely delicious. The staff there are so lovely and attentive. We both got the Turkish breakfast. The bread was so soft and warm. Amazing tasting food and the hot drinks were delectable. Honestly among the best I’ve had in Edinburgh”
“Amazing staff. Absolutely loved the food. Loved the vibe. My first time trying Mese and it's delicious. I can't wait to return!”
“The type of charming local cafe that is sadly all too rare these days, serving a wonderful mix of traditional Scottish dishes and cafe fair with some authentic turkish options. The food is freshly and lovingly prepared to order delivered quickly and with relish. The prices are surprisingly reasonable given the quality. Staff very warm and welcoming and happy to cater to preferences. Ample seating inside and some charming outside tables give it s real Mediterranean feel in the Costa del nitten. Owner passionate about food and pleasing his customers. Only single downside is having to wait awhile for a table as it is so loved by the local community that it's always busy, which is the biggest green flag for a cafe one can give. Highly recommend.”
“Had lunch today, delicious food and lovely choice of cakes. Very friendly staff. This was our first visit but won't our last”
