“Lovely staff, very quick service on a busy day, and very good food and coffee. Paid £11 for two great coffees and a tasty sandwich, which is pretty damn good for such a central location. Highly recommended!”

“Now offering a pop up restaurant on a Friday and Saturday evening. The food was fantastic modern Italian cooked with lots of love and served by the good folk that help create it. You can bring your own wine and the prices are such good value. What can I say ciao Elliott!”

“After a long walk from Edinburgh to Balerno via Union Canal and Water of Leith - this friendly wee cafe was a welcome stop!! Nice coffee and really tasty cheese scones - served by smiley volunteers and at a reasonable price. Cake selection looked fab - hope to visit again soon to try them out!”

“If you are looking for the closest thing to tasting fresh pasta while sitting in a restaurant in Venice- this is it! We have tried a number of Italian joints across the globe and this is as close to sitting in Italy as you can get. From the caprese and vegetable soup (soup of the day) as a starter, to the carbonara or ragu for mains, down to the pistachio cakes and tiramisu- you can do no wrong for anything on the menu. It’s a family owned restaurant and you can tell the pride they take with every meal. Make a reservation to avoid being turned away (we got lucky when a last minute table opened up- even waiting 15min outside). It’s worth the entire wait. You won’t regret it.”

“Attended with a wheelchair user, immediately a member of staff was present to help us get in and get to a table. The entrance is step-free. The staff were fantastic and really friendly throughout our visit. Great selection of food, everything made fresh so asking for something without one of the ingredients was not a problem at all, and the choice of fresh cakes was INCREDIBLE. The marlenka was beautiful! Would highly recommend.”

“Beautiful sitting. Delicious scones. Exceptional service. I went to enjoy tea and a scone. I asked for extra warm tea, which they kindly provided. They kindly replaced my half eaten scone after it fell, without asking or charge. I hope to visit again and fully recommend a visit to whoever is in the city.”

“Visited Red Kite Café this morning for breakfast with a friend and had such a lovely experience. I ordered the Red Kite Breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. I asked for no mushrooms and the waitress kindly offered extra bacon instead — a really thoughtful touch, especially since most places simply remove the item without replacing it. The staff were very attentive and the café itself was clean, tidy and had a great ambiance. I’d definitely recommend it and would happily return!”

“Wonderful - a must visit, must see, must eat, if you are in Lieth. Bagel was awesome with an egg cooked in the middle, so many seasames too, and the apple tea was so delicate and delicous like eating crisp red apples.”

“We visit Edinburgh maybe 1-2 times a year and hands down, the Cafe Edinburgh is always wonderful. We're always greeted like old friends and it is always our first choice. Some lovely Scottish twists on menu items (add some haggis to your breakfast roll!). The staff are top-notch and friendly (shout out to Cathy/ possibly Cassy who was delightful and took time to take a photo of our family together).”

“We had the smoked salmon and avocado toasties, full brekky, kids pancakes and chipotle chicken panini. Every dish was excellent. My 9 year had the full brekky and she enjoyed every item on it, not a single item she didn’t like. She declared this as the best breakfast she had in Scotland. Pancakes were browned to perfection and fluffy inside. Smoked salmon toastie and the chicken panini were excellent too.”

“A lovely place to have a snack or even some warm soup on a cold rainy day! The atmosphere is simply enchanting, sweet yet simple decorum with a glaze of the best jazz classics, it feels like you’re in your own home but with better views. Highly recommend trying out their sweets, as they collaborate with small bakeries and are not outrageously sweet.”

“The shop maybe doesn’t look like much however best breakfast and loved the make your own breakfast option. Caramel Latte was the best coffee I’ve ever had, actually tasted like caramel unlike many larger chain cafes which would be more expensive. Would definitely recommend and go back.”

“Down a dark side street lies this hidden gem of a café. The service was friendly, warm, and prompt. The atmosphere was dark and comfortable. The food was outstanding. I had an excellent salad of roasted pumpkin with pesto and crowdie cheese. Best squash dish I've ever tasted. The sea trout I had next was perfectly cooked with crispy skin and served over rich white beans with Spanish chorizo. I would recommend this café to anyone visiting Edinburgh.”

“Lovely restaurant in a fantastic hotel. Our only meal here was breakfast and our full Scottish breakfast is excellent. Breakfast was also well done. In the evening the restaurant and bar are packed. This is obviously a place to go. Prices good. Attentive and professional staff.”

“The place was so beautiful, I went up stairs which was a great old space! Had a black pudding Hot Filled roll! The ladies who were behind the counter were so welcoming and the food was made in house the rolls and flat white were both so good (the roll was amazing so fresh and fluffy) and did I mention it is cheap too!?!?! Cause as a broke backpacker this was the only thing I could afford and it was worth every penny!!! Best little spot in town!!!”

“You need to book in advance to avoid disappointment. They limit the number of visitors. There is a 90minute time slot allocated, which is far enough to get a good look around and listen to the guide as they brings you the history of the chapel. Well worth a visit if you are visiting Scotland. It is a good opportunity to set foot inside this chapel that was used in filming the famous Da Vinci Code movie.”
