“I didn’t get to Temple Newsam to see the rhododendrons as planned this year, but did manage to fit in a quick visit today. The grounds really are magnificent! I love the walled garden and the many paths which lead around the estate. We also visited the tea rooms for a late lunch-friendly staff and lovely food; generous portion sizes too. You can explore the grounds for free but there are charges to visit the house, farm and Go Ape (we passed this as we headed back to eat-looks like great fun!) Parking is free except for the carpark nearest the drive in entrance which is £4.70; this can be paid online or by visiting the gift shop. Recommended!”

“Incredibly well designed and maintained gardens that are attractive all year round. The annual themed garden (this year Wallace and Grommet) is always a treat, and the playground is very well equipped for all ages of children. The Meadow section, with its more natural design, has come a long way, and is great for a stroll or a picnic. Probably our favourite gardens in York. Would benefit from a permanent cafe, but the Explore Library mobile Cafe and tent are good, and the Youth Hostel cafe (good coffee and cakes) is only a short walk around the corner.”

“Wonderful place, great for a walk whatever the weather! A lot of benches throughout which is great when the weather is nice.”

“Great spot for leaving the hubbub of the park and enjoying a spot of solitude. There are two bird hides, both adequately positioned. The route is quite obvious and well laid out, it can be muddy so boots or wellies in periods of wet weather are advised. The biggest attraction I found there - as there weren’t many birds around on the day I visited - were the really characterful, mossy trees. Just a wonder to walk between.”

“Gorgeous sunny day and a huge variety of birds. Well worth visiting. Good paths. Still some dragonflies about, even though it's October. Saw a bittern! His bill was pointing upwards as he eyed a hovering kestrel above. His long neck made him look like a snake. Great RSPB site, one of my favourites.”

“Really good and well maintained park Offers boat hire , splash park and train ride Water refilling stations also available across the park Toilets available , lots of picnic spots too Parking is only £2.50 for the day, boat hire is £8 for family for 25min, train ride is 5 for a family of four There is also cafe that offers ice cream and all sorts of drinks Highly recommend”

“Lovely park, dog had a great time, pond had iced over so nearly had a heart attack as he walked on it. Garden area, really nice walk. Didn't matter it was raining!”

“A beautiful park with lots of trails so walks can be varied. A fantastic place to walk dogs with secluded fields where dogs can be let off the leash for a run around without the worry of bothering other people. There are also ample bins around which people clearly use as the park was spotless. There's a small pond where a few families were fishing. There is also a fantastic bmx course and a huge off road mountain biking course suitable for all ages. It was so good to see so many people of all ages enjoying these facilities. Next to the bike courses is a nice and friendly, reasonably priced cafe.”

“A lovely park with lots of interesting pathways. Great for dogs too. Super colours in autumn and the walkway would be awesome in summer as it is covered in Wisteria”

“Excellent park within easy reach of York. Has an excellent play park which my daughter loved. It's well kept here.”

“This is a great park and outdoor space. A lovely 2 mile walk around the lake, looking for Room on the Broom characters. Good cafe and visitors centre too which has activities for kids inside. Well worth a visit. £2 parking for 4 hours”

“The Stray is a huge area of open land in Harrogate, but at this time of year most people are visiting one particular section of it which is the avenues of blossom trees. It was very dull and overcast yesterday morning when I visited but there were lots of visitors, all trying for the perfect photos. The trees really are spectacular; the majority are well-established mature trees but there seems to be a program of planting as I spotted a couple of areas with fair young trees. I’m so pleased that I was able to see them in full bloom, even if it wasn’t ideal conditions for photos.”

“Lovely nature reserve to walk around. Good walking shoes/boots needed as the terrain is very varied and can be quite slippery if its been raining. But would definitely recommend.”

“Been coming here for years, past 20 years! The King's Arm pub used to be great but lately it's been a letdown Discovered a historical landmark today! Mount Tarry By It Good to have a little wander...”

“Myself and a couple of friends went there for the first time, open mike night. Wow, it's so tastefully decorated, clean and modern, we felt very welcome, had a brilliant night. We'll definitely be going again, we've joined and became members to support the place although non members are welcome.”

“Daughter plays netball here a lot, courts both indoors and out are great, parking usually good unless it's a big tournament”

“Couple of parking spots, which are free, on Lund Hill Lane, open all year round, great for walking, cycling, dog walks and families. No amenities here Now a country park located on the former site of Monkton Colliery, then Royston Drift, which closed in 1989, the transformation is remarkable It is now a home to an array of wildlife, with plenty of paths throughout the area Most paths are of loose stone, so may not be suitable for all abilities and wheelchair users Definitely worth visiting if you are in the area”

“We loved it here. We rode our bikes from sowerby bridge on the canal to hebden bridge park and rode back to sowerby bridge the same way lovely day out”

“A fantastic afternoon spent walking around the grounds, the woods and the gardens before strolling around the Wildlife Park which has a great variety of animals in spacious enclosures. Rounded off with a visit to the House and taking in the history and artefacts of a very well maintained manor. Lovely!”

“We had our wedding here on Saturday. We were lucky with the weather but fantastic location and helpful, hard working staff. You are not tied to any contractors but can use whoever you want. Good value for wedding venue.”

“Nice for a walk and a good kids playground and a 2nd for toddlers. Could do with reintroducing the toilets under the restaurant and maybe lock up on a night. The funds made from the now payable parking could be used for this.”

“Wild , nice circular walk , parking available. A bit off road , still can go with a pram if you have medium to larger wheels. Can feed ducks there and see bunnies if you are lucky enough.”

“Such an great day out to see Santa and lights. So well organised and clean, could easily spend all day there, there's so much to do! Tickets are pricey but definitely worth it for a treat. The gift shop is also amazing full of good quality Christmas decorations”

“A great place to spend a morning or afternoon. Free parking and lots of walks and trails to enjoy. Staff were really friendly and enthusiastic, and (shoutout to Elizabeth!) gave us a basic run down of the history of the house and the story of Bagshaw on arrival which was a lovely touch! Three rooms to explore downstairs and three rooms upstairs, my favourite being the Eygpt room! Entry is free, and gift shop is reasonably priced.”
