“Went for Sunday lunch with the 2 grandchildren. Got the Sunday set menu. Starters and roast with extra sides. It was fabulous. Food-great, staff-great, service-great, atmosphere-great. The kids meals are massive. I will be back. Xx”

“Nice relaxing vibe. Nice, friendly and welcoming staff. Easy to understand menu. Really nice food. Curry was lovely could have had more chips though. Tom Tom soup fab. Fish Cakes good too. They should stock soya milk though. Overall, I think 10 / 10. Will go back again.”

“Popped in after a delayed journey of 4 hours so not happy. Went in because next door to the hotel, Beers were superb from a brewery we don't see down south. Menu was good, food was excellent quality and would have expected to pay more for. If it wasn't all homemade it certainly tasted like it was. Staff couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful without being overbearing. So good we didn't bother looking to go elsewhere on our second night in Chester and it was just as good although mysteriously quiet on a Saturday night? So atmosphere different to the Friday but hey, if this pub was 200 miles closer to me id never be out of it. We hope to be back and will make a point of it if in the area.”

“My first visit, beer was excellent and plenty of lagers to pick from on draft, pub was busy staff managed to get throu customers quickly, toilets were excellent very clean, only critism someone opened door leading to beer garden and left it open in middle of october had to put my coat back on has it was cold.”

“We hadn’t been to the Anchor for a while and decided to take advantage of a Premium Country Pub (app) “buy one main course, get one free” offer. The restaurant was busy (probably due to the offer) but relaxed, welcoming, warm and comfortable at the same time. We ordered king prawn, crab and chorizo pasta and a prime burger with a buttermilk chicken fillet added. (After pondering “beef or chicken burger?” for a while this was a great solution for only £3 extra.) The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. Our complements to the management, the chef(s) and personally to Emily, Kerry and Cameroon for both going the extra mile while looking after us.”

“Lovely little pub. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We had a meal off the small bites menu, which was tasty and good value. Very dog friendly with water bowls, treats and dog bed cushions. My little dog was very happy snuggled up by us. She even enjoyed a chicken breast off the dog menu.”

“1st visit for us today, came away determined to return sometime soon. My wife had the Thai curry which she said was delicious, I had the Fish and Chips. The fish was substantial and delicious, but, the chips were cut too thin with the result that a good number could not be fork eaten and were hard. The portion of chips was also a tad stingy. As mentioned in previous posts the drinks are expensive, I've had cheaper pints in London. But despite this we will be back and in larger numbers I think.”

“Our 1st visit for many years. Much improved. We enjoyed our meals (scampi and steak baguette). The staff were friendly and everywhere was decorated well for Christmas.”

“A diamond of a pub. We ate today enjoying the sunday lunch and a steak. The Sunday lunch, beef option, was absolute top notch. The beef was cooked lovely and was a generous portion. With a fantastic choice of veg and more gravy when we asked. My personal taste is to have my meals piping hot and unfortunately it wasn't really hot but this is my personal preference so no compliant. The steak was cooked to perfection and although I wasn't sure about the very chunky chips they were delicious. Again personal preference is that a Peppercorn sauce should have a peppery kick it was very mild. Again not a complaint just my personal preference. Would highly recommend booking prior to visit as lots of people were unable to get seats due to it being, deservingly, very busy. Would definitely recommend.”

“Just moved in to the area and checked out the Millstone, wow! A real pub with old fashioned values ie. Customers come first. Very friendly atmosphere, dog freindly, great beer great host and great beer garden! My new local.”

“We were passing and wanted a meal. We were warmly greeted and quickly served. The beer and wine were excellent. We chose what we wanted from the menu which was served in reasonable time. The food was freshly cooked and good quality. The staff were all excellent.”

“We visited the Brookhouse Liverpool on the 17/11/2025, pulled in by the bright lights of the fruity pushed out by the dire state of the bar staff and the stench coming from their pits, a big muscular man in a suggestive suit called joe and a feisty smaller than average quiz master. “My favourite place on Smithdown Road. Great food thats not pricey, a lively atmosphere and super friendly staff especially Mark who goes out of his way to make everyone feel welcome. Highly recommend for a pub night out :)”

“Visited Chester for the Christmas markets and popped in for some lunch when it started raining. Beautifully cooked fish and chips and much faster this time even though we could see you were very busy The 2 girls on shift (sarah and meg) were efficient and worked so well together. They kept us topped up with a little table service, all whilst making sure all the other tables were happy. Sarah came and had a little chat with us and we learnt that she was the manager. She spoke highly about her pub and her team. We can see all the little changes that have been implemented over the last few months are working well. We visit a couple of times a month and the pub has always been great. But I was particularly impressed with our entire visit this time. Sarah you are brilliant at what you do and have done for this pub.”

“Just back from Liverpool and found this pub on a walk. Proper boozer full of characters and a blazing fire. The lady behind the bar was great, very friendly. Great range of drinks. We enjoyed it so much we returned on two further days. Loved it.”
