“Found this gem of a place today & will 100% be returning! The burger & chips were insane, we also had a couple of sides - butter chicken & garlic bread like I’ve never had before!! Really reasonably priced, you have to add the chips on separately but £10ish for a burger then add the chips on for £3, your looking at £13 for a meal which is very reasonably priced for the quality of food! The milkshakes were amazing & was gutted we were too full for pudding as they looked incredible!! The guy serving who I think was the manager was absolutely brilliant! You could tell he had a passion for his job & a credit to this place! Great for children too which is hard to find now a days with the games room! We will be returning with our girls & this place really needs to branch out to other places it will do so well! Thanks so much for a fantastic lunch!”

“Midsomer Norton is very lucky to have this area, it is a great place for a little stroll through the woodland with the kids or dog. There are well maintained pathways, seating areas, a pond and an adjacent field. There are occasional events here and these are detailed on the notice board as you enter the reserve. Although its fairly small, the layout makes it feel larger and there are lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Well done to all the volunteers that keep it well maintained.”

“A bit of a trip down memory lane for me,I fished this place when I was younger. I fished the second lake, and cought plenty of bream and a couple of tench. Beware if you fish with maggots on the bottom there are a lot of eels about. But would recommend. And apparently there are alot of large carp in the fist lake.”

“Blagdon Lake is such a lovely spot and definitely feels like a bit of a hidden gem near Bristol. The views are amazing, with the water stretching out across the valley and the Mendip Hills in the background. On a still day the reflections on the water look incredible and it is so peaceful. There are some nice little trails through the woodland where you can go for a walk. It is quiet, with streams running through the trees and plenty of benches if you just want to sit for a bit. I saw swans, ducks and even a buzzard flying around. In spring the wildflowers make it even prettier. The old pumping station by the lake is interesting too and has a visitor centre where you can learn a bit about the history. The building itself is really nice to look at and adds to the charm of the place. What I like most is how calm it feels. You are only about half an hour from Bristol but it feels like you are miles out in the countryside. Perfect for a walk, a picnic or just to chill out and enjoy the scenery.”

“Spent a wonderful week at Cheddar Woods, the cabins were clean and well equipped for a self catering stay, including dishwasher and washing machine. We had a hot tub, which was wonderful and hot, and a fake fire place which heats up quickly. The heating and hot water was brilliant, as was the water pressure. There was a heated pool, which again was clean and open mornings and afternoon. There was walks, and Cheddar Gorge is close by. We took a walk down, but take the longer route as it has a path! The staff were friendly, it was great for kids they have a little arcade with cheap £1 rides and a playground outside the restaurant. We didn’t eat in there, but the food looked good. I recommend the fresh milk from the shop, it is delicious. It is a great location, and in beautiful woods. We will be back!”

“Loved Wookey hole. Stayed at the lodges by the hotel, which were nice. The caves were great to go down into and the guide was informative. When you go back outside, there's a dinosaur wilderness which is good for little kids. We did the 4D cinema which was entertaining. If the weather hadn't been so bad, we would have done the crazy golf. But saying that, the weather added to the atmosphere, so didn't dampen out spirits. Highly recommend.”

We had a burger each, shared the wings and a portion of Christmas poutine, they were all delicious. The service was brilliant, everyone was lovely and really helpful. “I love this place. There, I said it. I love this place. The Kensington in Cotham is the sort of pub you rarely find outside London these days — and even in London they're being squeezed out faster than a pint in Soho on a Friday. It's the holy grail of neighbourhood spots: a proper local with style, substance, a deftly pulled Guinness, and a wine list that doesn’t look like it was printed in the back of a Ladbrokes. There’s a guest beer on. Always a good sign. Not ten, not twelve, not the sort of barrage of IPA nonsense where every pint tastes like someone cleaned their bong in it — just one well-kept, rotating cask that makes you feel like you’re in on a secret. And the restaurant out back is actually, properly good. Thoughtfully done. Confident. The kind of thing that makes you lean over to your wife and say, mouth full of something beefy and delicious, “God, maybe we should move round here.” It’s that sort of place. It’s got that magic. You feel it in your bones — and your belly. But here’s the rub. And there’s always a rub. We arrived at 8pm on a Saturday night — peak time, peak mood, peak appetite. I was ready. I was primed. I had a Guinness in hand and the dreamy glow of a menu that does exactly what I want menus to do: stay the hell out of the way. Three starters. Three mains. Three sharer/chop-type things. Boom. That’s it. That’s how it should be. None of this laminated, twenty-page novella of mediocrity. I always say — and I do, with dreary repetition — that if a menu needs more than one page, you’re about to be served reheated despair in a ramekin. So when I saw this short, punchy, confident little line-up, I nearly kissed the waiter. But then came the heartbreak. They’d run out. Not just out of one thing, which you can sort of forgive if it’s an obscure cut of something foraged off a Welsh hill at dawn. But loads of things. A worrying amount of things. Unless I was going veggie (me? More likely to take up ballet) or my wife could be convinced to take on a hulking great Chateaubriand with me (less likely still — she once winced at a côte de boeuf for two like I’d suggested we hunt it ourselves), we were left with… cod or onglet. Now I like cod. And I adore onglet. But that’s not the point, is it? You can’t go into a restaurant with nine items on the menu and so many of them off. Not at 8pm. Not on a Saturday. That’s like showing up to the cinema and being told the projector’s knackered but they can act out the ending for you. It kills the momentum. It breaks the spell. Because the spell, here, is that The Kensington is quietly brilliant. That it’s run by people who care. That it’s the sort of place that gets it. And it still might be! I’m going to give it the benefit of the doubt, because I’m not a monster. And because I want this place to succeed. I want it to be great. I want it to be the kind of pub where you book dinner on a Tuesday and stumble out four hours later with half the room’s birthdays in your phone. But they’ve got to sort that kitchen out. If you’re going to do the lean menu thing — and yes please, do it — then you’ve got to back it up with stock, planning, and the ability to make it to closing without shrugging at guests like it’s a village fête and the cake stand’s been pillaged. That said, I’ll be back. Probably next week. Because I do love it. The Guinness is cold. The crowd is warm. And I can still taste that promise — the one that makes you Google house prices on the walk home.”
