“We were so surprised to have found this amazing gem of a place to stay. It is more like a boutique bed and breakfast (minus having to get up for the breakfast because they just give you a basket of food that is well stocked and replenished each day so you can eat whenever you feel like it - loved that!). There were a lot of nice details put into refurbishing the rooms so that there was no mold smell at all, despite being over 300 years old! The furnishing and decor were wonderful with an incredibly comfortable bed. I can't say enough about the hospitality and helpfulness of the staff, Marie was awesome! They do little things like welcoming you in advance of your stay to make you feel invited and thought of, and there are real people to respond to you when you write back. They respond immediately with a lot of help with any questions you ever have. AND it is in a great part of Bath, really easy walking distance to everything! When I 'googled' the street, it looked a little funky and maybe not very nice, but it was not that way at all, it's a great street! This has been the best place we've stayed thus far in England with a great price for what you get. I can't recommend it enough!”
“Brilliant weekend here. Stayed in a shepherds hut which was extremely comfortable with lots of those little extras that make it extra special. My only regret was the weather was too warm to light the stove in the hut! Owners very friendly and accommodating, couldn't do enough to make sure we enjoyed our stay. Would definitely stay here again, may try a yurt next time.”
“A very special time spent with a particularly fine and charming hostess, Patricia. In a delightful Georgian House originally owned by the renowned Fry family, set in a lovely position with attractive garden and country outlook and within minutes of the centre of the historic Axminster town square while enjoying very easy access to all the various amenities in the surrounding areas. Excellent accommodation and an outstanding home-cooked breakfast is just part of the many delights you may be sure you will experience at Compton House.”
“Very clean room and comfortable bed, safe place for the dog to run around, lovely shower, local pub near by. Can't fault it.”
“we enjoyed our stay here very much. so lovely owners, beautiful rooms and surrounding. make sure you're also taking a walk at the marshland if you go there.”
“This is a two star hotel with a five-star attitude. The rooms are immaculately appointed en-suite doubles traditionally designed to deliver old-fashioned comfort and ambience. Cleanliness and high standards of maintenance are everywhere. The public areas are warm and welcoming beyond what many other hotels ever achieve; this is a real home from home. The restaurant, bar, and lounge combine a subtle balance of intimacy and homely warmth that affords guests their own choice of personal space or friendly interaction with other guests. The restaurant's generous and varied gourmet menu brings you first-class choices from simple farmhouse trad dinning to four course gourmet feasts that will delight you. The wine menu is a superb selection of fine wines for every occasion which the hosts will be delighted to advise you on if you wish. The heart of The Old Malt House is the delightful family who own and run it. They host their home and their business with dedication that is reflected in every aspect of what they do and you expect. If you value the genuine, old fashioned values of service and hospitality from a family run hotel, you have arrived at the right place. In comparison with similar hotels and restaurants in Bath, the Old Malt House offers you superior value for money, service and quality of life than any other establishment. Don't get stuck in town, step 6 miles South of Bath and experience beautiful, ancient rural Wiltshire first hand.”

“With the help of the Woody team we hired the skittle alley for a family get together and had a blast. The booking process was made easy by the great staff, who kindly took care of our needs. The buffet food was fantastic and the space was perfect to get everyone together for a fun night playing skittles. Highly recommend and thanks Woody team!”
“Popped in for dinner Saturday just gone, instantly felt very warmly welcomed. Beautiful place, especially with the fire glowing. The menu & food preparation was explained clearly to us and we were encouraged to have a look around and not stay stuck to our table. The food came out and was absolutely incredible, we both were very satisfied and went home feeling very stuffed. We would definitely visit again.”
“We couldn't stay overnight but popped in for Breakfast at 7:30am on a Saturday as last time it was so good. It was a Brilliant Breakfast again. Full English for £10.90 (Dec 25) The quality, range and service were excellent. The Sausage was more than an inch in diameter as tasted gorgeous. Don't think we will be able to eat until tomorrow.”
“Lovely dinner at The Methuen. Excellent service, I believe by Carly. It was very reasonable, especially with the 25% on a Wednesday and a £20 drinks voucher as a birthday gift. I couldn't fault it, fab evening!”
“The Priory is local to us & we have thought about booking the restaurant for quite some time, but I find it hard to try new places. We were gifted a voucher for the restaurant last Xmas, so last week we finally used it. We booked via the website & added our usual request for quiet area as ASD. I have to say I was apprehensive, but I was very impressed. From the moment we arrived the service was excellent and the staff so friendly. I felt VERY comfortable here, which for a first visit, is high praise indeed! We sat in the panel room, with dark wood panelled walls. As they were quieter on the evening we came, they gave me a choice of table, which I really appreciated! (I would book this table again in the future!) We were looked after by David, & he was great - just the right balance of attentiveness! We chose from the three course set menu and the food was delicious. Hubby had cured smoked duck to start, I had smoked ham hock and jalapeño croquettes - the duck was so tender & the croquettes crispy & melty inside. We both had the pork loin for mains, with triple cooked chips & roasted Jerusalem artichokes to share. Again, we couldn’t fault anything. The pork loin was slightly pink and melted in your mouth, the chips were amazing & the artichokes were gorgeous. A great pairing! Finally we decided on the Orange & Almond cake & the cheese board to finish, which we also shared. Again, perfection! Another point for us is, as real ale drinkers, so often you find that restaurants in hotels skip on the cask ales, but The Priory have their own pale ale as well as one of our favourites - Bath Ales, Gem! Thank you for a lovely evening, our first visit but definitely not our last.”
“Large car park. Easy access. Location good. Breakfast very good. Did not have any other restaurant food. Londis is 100 yards away and sells anything forgotten. Very clean everywhere. Only soap in the bathroom and no tissues but to be expected at the price for a clean easy access comfortable room.”
“Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch of a duo of beef served with cauliflower cheese, peas broccoli and swede, followed by crumble and custard. Excellent value for 2 courses. We were served by the lovely and friendly Charlotte. Hope to return soon.”
“My car broke down so we got stranded in Usk for 3 days, but luckily we found this beautiful hotel. Rooms are immaculate, staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming. The location is central and the hotel has a lovely garden. Highly recommended!”
“Lovely historic building that is well maintained. The staff are all very approachable and friendly. We had a wonderful stay.”
“I've stayed at The Bowl Inn a couple of timed now for work. The rooms are clean, tidy and a very pleasant place to catch 40 winks. The food has been exceptional and is only surpassed by the outstanding staff, I reserve special praise for (apologies for forgetting your name), the young chap behind the bar who's head is close to the rafters, very polite and funny, the lady manager who, even though I look like I'd been dragged through a hedge after 17 hours of work, and didn't fit the nice atmosphere, was witty and kind, great Christmas jumper too, but special mention to Monica, the lady at breakfast service, always a smile at 7am and makes the best latte around. Have a good Christmas, Gabriel.”
“Went here after a lovely walk in the Mendips. Pub was very quiet but the staff were lovely and the roast dinner was exceptionally good! Great beer, great food and great location, many thanks to the staff.”
“Shannise was really helpful and took time to show me around the gym and pool areas prior to booking my membership. Shannise was professional and took the time to take me through the flexible offer of the gym and pool and also the classes as well. Very easy process and also provided a blue light discount on membership as well.”
“My son's wedding was here and I cannot praise the staff highly enough. Amazing day, great food and a wonderful venue with a fantastic room for an overnight stay.”
“This was for a pre booked Christmas meal with family. Great food and service and the table looked nice with runner and crackers. The only thing missing was, once we were seated, no one came to just greet us and let us know how long food would be, etc. Otherwise everything was great. Thank you”
“Couldn’t say more about our stay. Warmly greeted by cheerful and helpful staff. Primary contact at front desk (reception area pictured) during our stay was Charlie - informative and positive. We stayed in Rm 28 which looked over Bath’s recreation field (bowling lawn and croquet field) with Abbey in the distance. Only downside was lack of storage - challenge for us as we had a 5 night stay (seems most folks have shorter stays). The Plate has a good breakfast and dinners were varied and good (had our first Sunday roast beef dinner and it was memorable). Location provides 10-15 minute walkable access to a number of activities (rowing on the Avon, viewed our first cricket match, the Holbourne Museum, and all that Bath proper has to offer). I asked a former co-worker (Brit ex-pat) best place for holiday in Britain and he replied quickly, Bath. The Bird Bath made it that much better. Highly recommend.”
“We first went to the restaurant here and loved the food and atmosphere so much that we came back to get married here! The grounds are amazing and the food is worth more than its 2 AA rosettes. The staff are impeccable and trained to the highest standard. The hotel and rooms are extremely luxurious - we felt like royalty. I'd live here if I could!”
“The rooms are clean, modern and have everything you need! Staff are friendly, polite and helpful- even when busy! Tasty breakfast included in the price! Absolutely brilliant! What more could you ask for- would definitely stay again!”
“I had a lovely stay at The Malt House, when visiting for a wedding at Berkeley Castle. It's a great location for walking to the castle. I had a very generously sized room and the most delicious breakfast! Although the hotel and location were great my absolute favourite thing was the staff - everyone was so kind, warm and welcoming. They went above and beyond to ensure I had a good stay and made me feel so comfortable while staying by myself.”
“Hosts were extremely warm, welcoming and friendly. Cooked breakfast was second to none, with high quality ingredients. Rooms were clean, spacious, warm. Beds were very comfy. Location only 5 minutes by car to Keynsham train station. Plenty of car parking on site. Relatively quiet, despite being on a main road.”
“Everythings fine. Room, breakfast, Service, WiFi, everythings fine.”
“I've come here a few times for Christmas and a date or two. Really nice inside, friendly staff and the food was phenomenal! I make the effort to come here when I'm around town. No complaints!”
“Absolutely fantastic hotel - have been here twice this year as a getaway from Bristol. Stunning grounds and building, staff are really friendly and helpful. Rooms are gorgeous and spacious, large comfortable beds. Loved walking around the arboretum. Great value for money as room cost includes use of spa and breakfast too. Have stayed during off season and always really buzzing and great atmosphere in the bars, often live music in the Atrium. Would highly recommend!”
“We didn’t know what to expect when booking the snooty Fox as this was given to us as an experience 2 night away gift. I can happily say my husband and I had a fantastic two nights stay with the snooty Fox. The reception area for dining area and pub were pleasantly clean and welcoming. The staff were incredibly attentive as well as interested in communicating with their guests. The dinner and service was perfect on both nights. We wouldn’t usually eat at the same place twice while away but the first night blew us away and we were more than happy to return the following night, there are plenty of place to eat around there with great reviews, but I’m glad we ate there both nights. There is so much to see around the area and surroundings. We would happily stay here again.”
