“A beautiful quiet campsite for tents only. Undefined grass paddock with trees and bushes, as well as large open grass areas. Pitch wherever you like, and make use of one of the four or five designated fire pits. Washing up facilities are basic, but adequate. The showers were lovely and hot, and toilet block although basic was kept clean and there was always toilet roll available. The owners / hosts were very accommodating and helpful, and were always available to assist when we had questions. Highly recommend this site for families, young children and anyone wanting a quiet getaway.”
“We got a last minute lodge and it was clean and tidy. The only issue we had was we couldn’t connect our fire stick to the tv but that was due to the HDMI cable not being in to the fixed TV. Called guest services which told me to ring another number who responded with you need to phone guest services so gave up”
“A fantastic place to stay, can't wait to go back! I was travelling with a baby so emailed ahead to check suitability. The staff were very helpful and suggested I book the Stables as it's a separate building to the others. The room was very spacious; even with a cot, pushchair and changing mat in the room there was still plenty of space for me to pace around in the middle of the night. The bathroom was very clean and the shower was amazing. I love a hot shower and am usually disappointed, but here I had to turn the water down which is very rare. The bed seemed a bit soft to start with but actually was very comfy, and there was no noise from the pub aside from twice we heard another guest coming and going. The location was fab, with plenty of walks right on your doorstep and a short distance to Bakewell I'd definitely recommend and would stay here again in a heartbeat”
“The second I walked into the Maynard I knew we had to have our wedding there. The whole team have excellent communication from the original booking process, smooth transitions and organisation from the morning getting ready to the end of the day and the food was beautiful. We live in Thailand so have been planning the wedding from abroad but the team at the Maynard have been accommodating with communication, online meetings and answering 1 million questions and requests from me via email. Do not hesitate to book your wedding here, you will not regret it!”
“We've just got back from 4 nights at a Birch Cottage which was in a stunning setting. The prices were very reasonable. The house was clean and the pool was great for the kids, also being very clean. We took a fab circular route and climb to Win hill, well recommended and ate twice in he Cheshire Cheese Inn at the bottom of the lane which was stunning. We also had the Curry Cabin in Hope deliver on the first night, also very tasty. One other recommendation for the owner, I'd update the pack for the house and maybe a small set of goodies or something from somewhere local in arrival... that would top it off nicely. Do beware that the house is spring fed and therefore, water can be a little hit and miss!”
“We stayed one night while attending a wedding nearby Vicky was extremely helpful when I contacted her to ask for help finding a taxi . The room was very comfortable and clean and the cooked breakfast was amazing. Definitely a place to visit if you are in the area”
“We called in for lunch whilst exploring the village. The pub is traditional and we received a warm welcome. There’s seating to the front and the rear of the pub and as it was a warm day we sat outside and had drinks and some lunch. The menu was varied with some great options including sandwiches. The food we had was really nice and good value for the price. We were only staying in the next village, so popped back up for a pint in the evening too. It was really vibrant with lots of friendly locals and a good atmosphere. As a bonus there is a really decent sized car park at the back. I would recommend this place to everyone and will visit again when I’m next in the area for sure.”
“I honestly don’t know where to start! Me and my family have been coming here for years, all celebrations including big functions for my brothers cricket team and it has always been impeccable! My family decided to book for my 21st birthday meal and as a present the Robyn Loxley suite was booked for me and my partner to stay the night. The suite was absolutely beautiful, spacious, unbelievably clean and beautifully decorated. The thought and little details that go into the suite are stunning and anyone debating booking it you will not be disappointed! Onto the food, every time we have eaten here it has always been amazing but last night was absolutely unreal. We had 20+ people in our booking and every single dish came out on time, fresh and absolutely divine! Every single member of staff was absolutely lovely and made my night so so special, I really will remember this night forever. Thank you to John, his family and all the staff!”
“We had a midweek lunch which was first class. Local IPA is recommended, generous portions and varied fresh vegetables support an imaginative menu. Tables are well laid out, sensibly spaced And the interior decor is top quality. The staff are well trained and interested in the food. The food and views are excellent,so worth making the trip out especially on a sunny day.”
“What a lovely campsite in such a beautiful location. The campsite is pristine with what looks like newly refurbished toilet and shower block (Limetree). The campsite is located within Clumber Park. There is something for everyone here. I enjoyed 2 days of hiking the trails around the lake and wider park. There is a cafe trailer at the top of the lake about a 1.5 mile walk from the site. The main cafe within the National Trust complex in the park is about 2 miles from the site. The walking is easy as it is mostly flat. I will definitely be returning here.”
“We have visited a few times for drinks but today was the first time we dined. The Sunday lunch was wonderful - better than anything else we've had in the area. Great staff lead by a fabulous host and the pub itself is lovely and in a good location. No hesitation in recommending this place”
“My fiancée and I had the most wonderful time in Sherwood. The cabin was beautiful and the location was simply stunning. There were plenty of activities available, but more than enough gorgeous scenery to just go for a leisurely walk. The staff were incredible, friendly and helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. Forest Ranger John was an absolute legend with his delightful quiz on Wednesday and a lovely, impromptu walk in the forest on Tuesday. I would absolutely come again and highly recommend Forest holidays in Sherwood to anyone looking for a peaceful, picturesque break in the forest.”
“A lovely stay at this beautiful hotel. The staff were absolutely fantastic and made the stay even more memorable with their professional, friendly and attentive service throughout. The restaurant was excellent, where the quality of the food was superb. The Location is great and for those who enjoy fly fishing, you have the Derwent (wading) and Wye (bank fishing) rivers. To make the experience even better, you can get a local guide to be with you, providing expert tuition and river knowledge. I had ‘Bernie M’ which was a real privilege to learn from such a well qualified fisherman. We will return as this is a special place; a thoroughly enjoyable few days. Thanks to everyone at the Peacock.”
“Myself and partner had a couple of lovely evenings here during a visit to Jackson Bridge for the weekend. A very cozy pub that made us feel welcome. We loved the beers and the nice conversations with the locals! We would certainly come back.”
“Excellent stay. Lodge was spotless inside, had all the facilities and equipment you’d need for a weekend away. We stayed at another resort the weekend prior and was so disappointed so we were a little apprehensive going away for the second weekend in a row. However this stay was perfect. Lovely big bath. We didn’t actually use the hot tub, the outside area could have done with a little spring clean, but this didn’t bother us. We had the edge lodge so felt lovely and private. Heating easy to use. Close to Sherwood Forest.”

“You can't go wrong at this wonderful pub. The food is superb, all the ingredients are locally sourced and cooked to perfection. You've got to try their full English breakfasts, especially the large belly buster. 3 sausage, 3 bacon 2 eggs, 2 hash browns, black pudding ( my fav), beans and plum tomatoes, comes with toast and tea. Me being greedy ask for fried bread on top....fantastic. But then, you've got to try their homemade pies, packed with filling to the brim, simply the best. They have lots of offers on different nights, so it's always worth calling in for a feast....”
“A very warm welcome a beautiful traditional pub. Very friendly staff. The waitress a breath of fresh air. And the food was traditional good cooked and presented lovely a set menu is available at a very good price. We had soup pates fish, and my husband hasn't stopped talking about his pie, and braising steak and home made desserts apple crumble and steamed puddings, absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended. Can't wait to return. Thank you”
“4* for convenience, cleanliness, service and for location. We've used The Lawns before and used a family room on 1st floor. Simple but elegant furnishings, so well organised with 2 kitchens to either use for a simple meal or something more. We took our ingredients for a chicken curry and our son and grandson (local) joined us. We will always use The Lawns for value and ease of use. Thank you.”
“Recently stayed for two nights, whilst trading at an event at the Lincoln showground. A small, but very comfortable and clean room, with everything needed, including good wifi. Very friendly hosts, who did earlier than normal breakfasts for us, as we needed an early start. Breakfast was lovely, good choice, plentiful and cooked perfectly. Highly recommended.”
“A really unique venue. Huge range of facilities offered throughout the grounds. Hard to work out how they pack it all in. Hunting tower project sounds amazing / incredible. Lots of historic artefacts on display that add to the sense of 'another world'. One of the best museums locally. Native wildlife is easily accessible and will come right up to you which adds to the adventure. Recommend booking as queues can be long at weekends when the buses arrive. Parking limited but you can usually find space easily enough on Lower Wood. Just leave car anywhere and local staff will take care of it for you.”
“This is a fantastic family holiday / break venue. Everything that you would need for an enjoyable time is here on site. There are activities for all age groups, some are in with the price, swimming for example, the aqua park is outstandingly good, we have had hours of fun in there. There are other activities that you have to pay for, zip wire, ten pin bowling and boating to name a few. The venue is kept spotlessly clean by the friendly attentive staff, and the accommodation is set out well, nestled in the wooded area. If you want to eat out, there is a choice of restaurants on site. If you prefer to cook your own meals, there is an on-site shop that is extensively stocked. All in all, Centre Parcs has got it right. Their focus is that the whole family have an enjoyable, memorable experience that makes you want to do it again.”
“What a lovely guesthouse! The owner goes above and beyond to make sure guests are comfortable and well cared for. They have a room downstairs for disabled guests and a private car park, both plusses. We'd definitely stay here again.”
“Plenty of parking. Beautifully situated. Accommodation is well appointed with a Nespresso coffee machine, fridge, ironing board and iron, and little extras like fresh milk for your tea/coffee plus delicious biscuits. The restaurant dinner was pricey but well worth it - the 3 fruit crumble (dessert) a particular highlight! But breakfast was surprisingly disappointing by comparison (bacon was rock hard, sausage overcooked, and tomato cooked so much there was no actual tomato to enjoy), but the fruit juice and fresh fruit and self-serve area was wonderfully fresh. And overall the service thoughout the trip was attentive and very friendly. Would easily recommend.”
“Recommended hotel, great food from experienced chefs. We eat here every week, it's become a thing in our group because they've never disappointed this far. People staying there seem very happy so I can only assume that the rooms must be great too. Staff are lovely and helpful.”
“Came in on a weekday evening for some food whilst I happened to be in the village. Fabulous staff - greeted warmly and quickly. Food was excellent - as others have echoed a gorgeous steak pie is on the menu, which I had along with a very tasty sticky toffee pudding. Can absolutely recommend if you're in the village, or it's worth the trip if you're nearby!”
“Had lunch here and was very good. Probably the best ploughman's I've had. Homemade bread and sausage rolls. Lovely lean ham and local cheeses. Had a homemade apple and cinnamon crumble with vanilla custard for dessert and was also really good and a large portion. My friend had a homemade steak pie with mash and she said was very good. Prices were good from the Light Bites menu. There was another comprehensive menu of mains at higher prices.”
“SUPERB ! Good selection of ales and beers, spirits, soft/0 alcohol drinks. The food looked WONDERFUL. Lovely staff, made we bikers feel really welcome. A real pub, with chalet style rooms to stop over in. Fantastically massive menu range. Try it. You WONT be disappointed. See you again, soon.”
“We visited twice over the weekend. We had drinks and enjoyed the quiz on Friday and then booked for a meal the following night. The food was amazing. Home cooked pub food, generous portions and it all tasted beautiful.”
“Had lunch here because they had a good variety of vegan a vegetarian food. We had vegan sausages, seasonal veg, and mash in a large Yorkshire pudding and a cheese, potato and onion pie with mushy peas and chips - absolutely delicious. We would go back again. Young lady serving us was, polite and attentive.”
