“We recently stayed at the Hop Pole Hotel and it was excellent. We had two double rooms and a single room I was in the single and the room was clean, beautifully decorated, the bed very comfortable and the bathroom very spacious and modern. The decor of the hotel fits in well with the building. The staff were friendly and helpful. Compliments to the chef as the breakfasts and evening meals were superb. Everybody was really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would definately stay here again and bring my husband and son as they do family rooms. Thank you for a wonderful stay, I will be back.”

“I was a little bit dubious about it being a motorway hotel, and i was wrong. The hotel was bright and airy, the staff on reception were warm and welcoming. The rooms were clean and the beds were comfy and clean. There was a bath and shower Coffee and tea were available. The hotel was close enough to the services to have a walk there. I had taken the wrong charger for my phone. The receptionist was very helpful and let me borrow a charger. I didn't get her name but she was amazing. The hotel was busy but was quiet. Breakfast was available to purchase from the services. Thank you for a lovely stay. Highly recommended.”

“I came here for business reasons and the hotel staff are magnificent, especially the night team comprising of two wonderful gentleman who deserved every poppadom I brought them. The rooms were comfortable and the shower not too bad! The only reason for a subtraction of a star is the silly glass pane that is used to block water from exiting the shower. It’s ineffective and makes the floor slippery. Please install a permanent fixture that extends further along the bathtub side. I’m no expert on showering appliances, but that’s my personal take on it. I loved the free bottles of water with the room, I find that to be such a wonderful feature of any room I stay in! The spa facilities were alright, the woman was very kind on the front desk. The steam room was far too cold to be classed as one, and had a strange odor to it. I won’t subtract stars for this as it’s not technically part of the hotel’s management. The bar staff were kind to me, especially the long-haired young fellow who made sure I got a lovely chicken Cesar salad for lunch! I recommend staying at this hotel. Parking’s free too!”

“Really pleased with the hotel. Clean, and the staff are amazing. 3 days we have stayed here due to unfortunate circumstances, but the stay is excellent. Elina, the lady who checked us in, has only been here a couple of weeks, but she is superb. Really patient and friendly. She is on for the future. Perfect!”

“I recently stayed at this hotel while attending a Christmas party with my husband and I couldn’t have been more impressed. From the moment I arrived, the atmosphere was warm, festive, and incredibly welcoming. A special shout-out goes to Holly on reception, who was absolutely outstanding. She greeted me with a smile, handled check-in smoothly, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect for my stay. Her friendliness and professionalism truly set the tone for the entire visit. The Christmas party itself was brilliant—great food, lively entertainment, and a lovely festive setup. The staff throughout the hotel were consistently attentive and helpful, making the whole experience feel effortless.”

“A warm and friendly home from home which we have been using since 1994. All our dogs think of it as their second home and settle the minute we arrive at Sue and Keith's. This allows us to go on holiday and relax knowing that our 'babies' are happy, safe, and loved. The dogs enjoy their holiday so we can enjoy ours. •••”

“Duncan looked after my dog Alfie and he was brilliant. I have booked two holidays with him and will always have Alfie stay with him. Michelle Clarke. Duncan walks my dog Bailly everyday and has him when I am on holiday. Get is brilliant with bailly and also works with any problem you have with your dog as baily wasn't good around other dogs but Duncan is working with him and he is a lot better. Jayne bailly mum”

“Lived in this place for a year now. Had it’s ups and downs when moving into the building, however that was expected seeing as we were the first tenants in the flat. But when the new manager of the building took over, it changed a lot and things started to pick up and get fixed, he’s been helpful and a lot more organised at sorting the building issues out! Overall the flats are bright and well set out. The carparking area is secured and spacious and key fob accessed. It’s be a great place to live for my final year of uni!”

“Stayed here for one night . Everything you need for a budget stay. Location not central however staff very helpful . Rooms were great for the price Large rooms . Extra services ie hairdryer and ironing board . No bar and lift was broken didn't cause us an issue but as we on third floor would have been a problem if you had mobility issues Overall a good size room and clean Good value for money”

“A decent Travelodge. Spacious rooms with comfortable beds. The room was very clean and new carpet fitted. Excellent value for money compared to the more expensive alternatives.”

“Just for the carvery Amazing price (£11.99 at time of writing), with very well cooked meats (pork, lamb, beef) and excellent extras. Cauliflower cheese and mash got best reception with our family. Super service, friendly staff and lovely setting. Other customers were really friendly too, so s great atmosphere. Unbelievable price for a jug of Pimm's too!! (See pics)”

“We stayed on 1st November to 2nd November, with our little dog Jack. We went out for a couple of hours and the evening reception staff where kind enough to look after Jack in reception. I am also vegan and they only supplied cows milk in the room. They were kind enough to give me a small jug of soya milk. The room was nice. It had an iron and ironing board, which was lovely.”

“Me and my partner stayed here for 2 nights while we visited family as we have come from the Lake District and we could not have asked for a better experience! The receptionist was very smiley and welcomed us with nothing but a positive attitude! On the second night we had a little issue with the key card but a new receptionist was very helpful and sorted the issue within no time. We were absolutely delighted with the room, very clean! We will definitely be coming by again.”

“Excellent wonderful helpful cooperative staff. We reached around 7 in evening. We were given a family room. Room was excellent size with clean bedding. We were surprised to see the quality of toiletries which I have never seen in even the best of hotels. The only hotel I have seen in country where air conditioner floor heater and fan was provieded before arrival. The best part was the 2 young lads on reception in evening especially Luke. Both were extremely cooperative and helpful young boys. They helped us with each and everything. They never said NO to any request. I will highly recommend the hotel especially because of hospitality and wonderful attitude of young boys.”

“I checked in on Monday 6th and checked out today Friday 10th October after being contracted to work on the building. The new manager Jo is absolutely amazing at her job and is such a lovely person, who is trying her hardest to make changes to the hotel and bring it up to a higher standard. I generally only sleep around 3 hours maximum per night but during my stay here I slept more than I have in around 15 years. The breakfast, both cooked and continental were lovely and the choice was brilliant! The night time food was amazing too and the chefs really can cook. The beds were unbelievably comfortable, the bedding was immaculately clean, the rooms were spotless and the tea and coffee facilities were brilliant (The Decaf Yorkshire Tea is spot on when you want a nighttime brew in bed). I’ll be returning and staying again next month for my Birthday weekend and I’m really looking forward to it. Can’t fault my experience/stay and I’m very hard to please. Thankyou Jo (or as I kept calling her “Mel”) and the rest of the team, you’re doing an amazing job.”

“A great hotel for the price! Paid £39 on the day for a double room. Safe to say due to the price we had low expectations, however, we found the hotel to be very comfortable! Pro's: Comfy bed, room was immaculately clean and the shower was lovely. Can't hear other rooms or other people in the hallway which allows for a good night's sleep! Shower gel/face wash/soap provided. Con's: Reception staff were polite but didn't go out of their way to help with things. Hallways/the building is dated and has a musty smell (room was absolutely fine). No kettle for tea and coffee making facilities! Overall, for the price we were very satisfied. Decided not to have breakfast here but judging from previous reviews this was probably a good call!”

“Great value for the money on private rooms. Booked here with a short notice (I believe 4 days) and managed to grab a private room for a few days. Staff was really helpful on the first day, facilities are in good condition and the places is well kept and clean. Options in the kitchen for food were plenty and it was always between decent and clean. No rotten food in the fridge!!! I swear it's the first time I find a fridge without rotten food. Not even in the office where there is always someone's pizza from the previous week. Props on that to the staff and guests. My only complaint with my room was that I could hear other guests walking and cooking all the time. So a bit uncomfortable if you are sleeping extra early and have a light sleep. Location can be a bit inconvenient depending on where you want to go and how much you like a steep hill for an entrance. But Sheffield is all about those hills, so that'd be an issue with the city as a whole.”

“The shower facilities are amazing. Perfect temperature amd water pressure. The beds are extremely comfortable. The location gas plenty of parking spaces. A particular mention the wonderful Pamela on reception, her attitude was immensely patient especially whilst dealing with our late check-in. She went above and beyond to accommodate our last minute room change request despite having to attend to other guests queries. Her kind nature made this stay truly exceptional and worth every penny in value.”

“I stayed for just one night and was pleasantly surprised. The room was spotlessly clean, the bed was really comfortable, and everything felt well looked after. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made a great first impression. Although there were a couple of minor issues, they didn’t impact my stay at all. It was a warm night, so I had the window open and could occasionally smell smoke from people on the balcony – not a problem for me, but something to be aware of if you’re sensitive to that. Also, the power to the sockets tripped at some point overnight, but I didn’t need to use them in the morning so it wasn’t an issue for me. Overall, I had a great experience and would happily stay again. It definitely exceeded my expectations!”

“This hotel is an old heritage kind of property yet comes with a Great Comfort of all the luxuries that you get in a Supreme staycation in mid of the Town. Newly Renovated Rooms, Big Size Mattresses , Ensuite Bath and shower, Free Wifi and Big Tele. Rooms are in Shining Condition and equipped with all the modern amenities. Secured car parking is a big Plus. Decent Management and nice smells inside the rooms and corridors. Additionally the price is cherry on the cake. Keep it up. :-)”

“Ziz is the perfect hostess. Ziz cooks a wonderful breakfast & very knowledgeable about the local area. Being a short walk drown to Matlock town with many trendy cafes resturants & bars. Our room was very comfortable & clean. There is a small lounge area & a garden to enjoy. I am sure you will enjoy your stay at Sherriff Lodge & the Matlock area. There is off street parking which is a blessing on some of the narrower streets.”

“This old Farmstead has been turned into multiple cottage/apartment areas by the owners. They have done a beautiful job. I stayed in Dove cottage and was impressed with how well appointed and thoughtfully designed this space was. The owners, Dan & Fay, pay careful attention to detail and provide an outstanding binder of welcome information in each cottage. The includes information about the cottage, amenities of the overall property, things to do in the area for shopping, eating, pubs, and things to do with children. There is even a separate binder for hiking and biking routes in the area which you can access from the cottages area. I love that my cottage had a full kitchen, full bathroom, living room and bedroom. It was absolutely perfect! There is even a leisure room on the property, which is open to all guests. This area includes a dining area for large groups, full kitchen, laundry area, and a room with shelves of boardgames and DVD movies. Bolehill Farm Cottages is a couple miles outside of Bakewell, so you would either need a car to get around, or you can utilize local taxi or Uber services to get in and out of town. During good weather, there are some bicycle routes into town, but I believe the hike into town would take at least 45 minutes to an hour, if not longer. The bus system is fantastic, with buses, leaving throughout of the day to get you to surrounding areas/towns. The visitor/tourist information center in Bakewell is a great resource to help you understand the bus schedules. Just a couple pounds to get to most places nearby. Rent a car so that you can get around, or budget money for Uber and taxi rides. A one-way ride into town for one person is about 8 pounds, and even more during peak times of the day, costing up to three times that.”

“I don't usually leave reviews but this place deserves a special mention. We arrived as total strangers and left as friends, even adding an extra night to our trip as we didn't want to leave! Our two kids enjoyed every second and learnt so much about animals and farm life. We can't wait to go back!!”
